Fix a Dead Battery Safely
Whether you accidentally left your lights on or your battery simply lost enough juice one day, you may find yourself stranded with a dead car. Fortunately, jumping a dead car with a live one is a relatively easy way to get out of the situation.
Put the cars nose-to-nose as close as possible. Be sure both cars are not running when you begin. Start by connecting the positive end of the jumper cable to the dead battery before attaching the other end to the live one. Then, connect the negative end of the other cable to the live car and ground the other end by attaching it to a metal portion of the vehicle away from belts or components. Start the engine of the running car for a few minutes before trying to turn over the dead car’s engine.
