Performance Capabilities

BMW X3 vs Audi Q5When driving an SUV, you want to feel exceptional power on your side to help you conquer whatever obstacles life may throw your way. Fortunately for you, both vehicles offer selectable drive modes, which can enhance your drive, and all-wheel drive features.

What sets the BMW X3 apart from the Audi Q5 is the strength of the engine. While the X3 has two different engine options for drivers, the Q5 only has one engine. When comparing the engines of these two vehicles, the Audi Q5 gets left in the dust of the X3.

BMW X3 vs Audi Q5 Engine Performance

BMW 3.0L TwinPower Turbo

Audi 2.0L

382 horsepower

248 horsepower

365 lb-ft of torque

273 lb-ft of torque

In addition to a more powerful engine, the X3 has an 8-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes. The Q5, on the other hand, only has a 7-speed S tronic® transmission. While one extra gear may not seem like a lot, this additional gear helps the BMW with faster acceleration and stronger power.

BMW X3 vs Audi Q5: Safety

BMW X3 vs Audi Q5Safety is the most important thing when it comes to driving. Having a powerful performance is nice, but having a second set of eyes keeping a lookout for you is even better. For that reason, the X3 has the optional Driving Assistance Package. Some of the features you’ll find with this package include:

  • Hill Start Assist
  • Steering and Lane Guidance Assist
  • Speed Limit Assist

With the Hill Start Assist feature, your BMW X3 won’t roll backwards when you need to start after a stop on an uphill. This works by having your rear axles keep your vehicle in place for enough time to move your foot from the brake to the gas. This feature won’t be found with the Audi Q5.

In addition to these active safety features, you’ll also be able to keep tabs on your BMW X3 from your smartphone. Thanks to the available Surround View with Remote 3D View, you can check the surroundings of your BMW from anywhere. If need be, you can remotely honk your horn or flash your headlights.

While there’s an app for Audi drivers that allows you to remotely access your vehicle, you won’t be able to get a live video feed of your SUV’s surroundings like you would with the X3.
